About NEXT CAST/CREW MEETING:

Previous Entry NEXT CAST/CREW MEETING: Sep. 7th, 2005 @ 07:32 pm Next Entry
I'm thinking Sept. 18th. so that I may actually have some more cash to chip into the prop fund, and an updated copy of the script for Kelly and Andy. Ironically, I think our director and leading lady are still the only ones that haven't gotten a fresh copy of the properly formatted script.

I will try to have at least most of part one storyboarded roughly by then, and also some unusual ideas on how to get the necessary flatgoods to build K-9's body and head... wouldya believe, i'm considering cannibalizing old plastic coolers for the flat pieces? Think about it, you can pick those up at yard sales for about a buck a piece, and I've got one we can rip apart right away. Then, we just need to put together a frame out of 1"x1" wood. Since drilling holes in plastic is relatively painless, it should go together rather well, and still be light enough that if I can locate a large RC Tank or buggy, we can take the little nipper out for walkies.

Other schmutz to come.

The meeting will be at my place

Oh yeah. Had some stuff to talk to you about. Then I forgot. Today was Hell on Earth at work. I'll remember later. Hopefully before we're all too drunk on Saturday.

How early can you come by? I want to make sure someone's there to play host while I take Evelyn home. Also, had some things I wanted to discuss before the partaaay starts.

I get off work at 3. Have to run home and pick up Dusty and Chris. Probably run by the store to pick up alcohol and taco stuff (remember, I'm cooking too - btw, how many people? Do we know yet??). I may want to take a nap at some point in there, since I have to be up at 4:30am. Either way, I can probably crash at your place before I start cooking, so I can get there really early (say as early as 4 or 5).

Or we could make a frame with some light wire mesh, and make the finish with either paper mache (cheap, but workable) or fiberglass (better quality, more durable, but costs a little more), and paint it up.

It would be lighter than some ripped apart coolers and look like we WANT it to look rather than just "eh...that'll do", and we could still put it on an R/C car (which I suggested in the first place :p ).

I just know absolutely nothing about fiberglassing... and I fear it may be cost prohibitive...

Last christmas, I did see a bad-ass R/C Tank that was about 3 feet long, so it probably had plenty of power, and K-9 doesn't need to be fast, just mobile...

As for the cooler bodies, I was thinking of the inner lining plastic, which is usually smooth and untextured. I love the fiberglass approach, I just need some help figuring out how it could be done...

I think I know the tank you're talking about, even, lol.

The problem with the plastic from the cooler is that in order to form it to a shape other than what it already has, we have to heat it a LOT. This is bad for a few reasons, the two biggest of which are toxic fumes and bubbling.

Fiberglass is relatively easy to do, although it can be a longish and tedious process. In the end it will take hardly more time than melting the plastic, and it will look a million times better. Besides that, wasn't I volunteered for building him anyway? :p
